Adaptable Micro-Transport: ‘Psych’

Psych is a low-power electric vehicle that encourages car use reduction within the urban landscape. The goal of this project is to create and implement a vehicle that can be used for short distances in an urban environment. This would reduce congestion, pollution, and parking problems.

Psych is a micro-transport that can be used in many different ways. Psych’s forward-facing stance allows for seated and standing positions, making it an adaptable vehicle. The bi-directional steering hub helps the user switch Psych’s position depending on their desired seating or standing style. This small yet robust design gives you more options than ever before!

Psych is a small, lightweight vehicle designed with the user’s changing lifestyle and recreational needs to meet commuter needs while enhancing travel capabilities overall commuting experience. Psych was created by Product Development Paper at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand, with one goal: A collaborative effort that began with extensive secondary research into urban commuting and healthy city trends and emerging technologies and explored through deep user engagement. Technology and usability were explored through various physical models, including full-sized, fully functional prototypes.

You can use it to get from point A to point B, but you could also use it for recreational purposes. It’s perfect for people who want versatility with their transportation options!

The Psych is a new, innovative vehicle that can be customized for each rider’s needs. The utility interface allows the rider’s seat to be shifted to the opposite end of the vehicle for an adult passenger or swapped out for a child’s seat or extended storage options. This ensures that riders are always comfortable and have enough space.

Psych is also a micro-transport that can be converted into an infant capsule. The utility interface allows the rider’s seat to be swapped out for an infant capsule, instantly converting Psych into a ride-on stroller for new parents to maintain mobility.

Wind-Powered Street Light: PAPILIO

The soft pattern of a butterfly’s wings, the amazing flight of birds, or the magical silkworm spinning its cocoon are some of nature’s little secrets. These phenomenons of nature are not captured by the electrifying cities’ lights – but they shine in our memory. Our sensibility towards light has been entirely lost as we do not see it anymore while living in blinding illuminating wavelengths. The street lamp PAPILIO on the other hand distributes a high-quality light spectrum that makes insects come out at night to enjoy it – without disturbing their natural behavior. The economically resourceful installation is powered by using an integrated wind rotor, generating energy using strong airflow, and preventing CO2 emissions from fossil fuels.

‘Papilio’ is a project by Tobias Trübenbacher for an eco-friendly street light that generates energy from wind. Energy-efficient lighting has become the main concern for almost everyone. At the same time, throughout the world, urban insects have started to disappear as light pollution has become more and more of a threat. Since PAPILIO produces its energy by using an integrated wind rotor, a large part of the occupied space in the city can be lit in a very energy-efficient way while providing also a habitat for insects.

The PAPILIO project is designed to deal with the light problem in a new and in an innovative way: they generate electricity from wind power. This generated power is used for lighting – which can largely be taken from renewable energies. By optimizing the use of generated energy, it avoids its conversion into heat and further use of electricity.

The Papilion, which was actively used in several parts of Berlin, produced up to 12 volts.

The system operates at low wind speeds by using lightweight, electrically charged vanes that rotate with the slightest breeze, and LED lights that emit energy-efficient, bright light. Papilio does not need expensive electrical construction. It is self-sufficient. In addition, the lights can be connected to local electricity and the excess energy can be diverted to the city. With its infrared sensor, it lights up when someone passes by. Thus, the energy it has is preserved for a long time.

As its name implies, this lamp brings light and happiness in unpredictable situations. With a simple gesture, the Bloom light helps you create a positive environment that encourages human connection and allows you to stay in the present moment. It brings joy to your life simply by being there.

Design Desk: The Rise of The HOME

The contemporary working culture and the pandemic have changed the way we work. We are increasingly mobile and often have to work on the go. This requires more flexibility in the workplace: We want to be able to work wherever we are, whether it be in the office or at home. It is good to have the option to combine a dining table with a working desk when you are at home. HOME combines a dining table with a hidden working desk, while at the same time separating them. Home is versatile and offers personalizing options, all components can be offered in different variants.

You can combine a house with a home office. You can have enough room to work at the same time and you don’t even have to leave home. Design can help to improve our quality of life and to be more productive. We believe there is always a home for design within an individual and a family home. We believe that it is possible to create a strong understanding of the relationship between home, work, leisure, and play when the user begins to see all the useful ideas which can emerge from them all. This all starts with the thinking behind the product, the use of space, and the object’s composition.

The home office of the present is usually a space with a desk and chair. However, the rising trend is, the desk is combined with a table. A brilliant solution to a common problem! A piece that is perfect for a home and is sure to solve your problem with limited space. This desk table is small in size but has a lot of space to store your work stuff.

Changeable Clothes Collection: Survivalist

Emi Tanimura presents the 2020 alumni collection, called ‘Survivalist’, functional and transformable outerwear. Emi’s aim is a comfortable and useful design to adapt to harsh conditions and changing conditions.

She is inspired by explorers, campers, displaced communities, and their own experiences of homelessness. She also mentions about the importance of using fashion as a way to raise awareness of social problems.

The source of inspiration in the emergence of these designs is herself. She designed these products based on the difficulties she went through. The main reason for the emergence of this design is due to the burden of carrying it when it is hot outside and wants to remove the jacket.

Look 1, “Bomber Bag”. The main reason for the emergence of this design is the carrying load of the jacket after removing it. Since it was uncomfortable to carry the jacket on your arm after the weather warmed, it made the jacket turn into a bag form. This jacket that can be used as a backpack has a heat lining to keep warm. It has 7 different compartments and is made of breathable, windproof, and waterproof material. It has a protective coating against UV rays.

Look 2, “Tent Trench”. Emi designed this product to serve as a temporary shelter in emergencies. This trench coat that instantly transforms into a tent is simple and easy to install. It can separate the lower part of the jacket from the jacket and turn into a single tent thanks to the inflatable poles.
